Project: Live Music to Build a Healthy Community

Caffe Lena is working to establish a new way in which music venues live in communities by expanding four venue initiatives. ‘TrueSongs’ connects songwriters with community members who have faced personal hardships to create healing music from their lived experiences. ‘Caffe Lena On The Road’ brings live music to after school programs, nursing homes, soup kitchens, and more. ‘Creative Community Health and Wellness Clinic’ offers free health screenings and care to local working musicians. ‘Learning from Each Other’ is a convening at Caffe Lena to discuss civic challenges in order to holistically raise up the surrounding community.

Caffè Lena presents extraordinary music in an intimate setting steeped in history. It is widely recognized as the longest continuously operating folk music venue in the United States. The Library of Congress calls Caffè Lena “an American treasure” and the venue has been recognized by the GRAMMY Foundation for important contributions to the development of American music.
