Project: Rebels on The Rise: Emerging Appalachian Artist Showcase

With limited opportunities for gigs in Central and Eastern Kentucky, it can be difficult for emerging artists to develop their artistic identity. Rebel on the Rise will provide a platform for these musicians in the form of a month-long residency in which they will compile assets needed to book shows, make relevant connections with local venues and organizations, and have the chance to cultivate an audience at Rebel Rebel. This program will allow young artists to grow, while also sustaining the live music ecosystem in rural Kentucky.

Rebel Rebel Studio & Lounge is a live music venue, lounge, photography studio and event space located in the small Central Appalachian city of Berea, Kentucky. Occupying a historic downtown property, Berea's only live music venue features local and touring bands and programs an all ages community-led weekly open mic. Rebel is a hub for cultural organizers and activists and maintains a welcoming and inclusive social space for Berea College community and off-campus residents. Rebel Rebel Studio & Lounge is home to: Peg & Awl Public House, Erica Chambers Photography, and 501c3 nonprofit community arts organization, First Friday Berea.
