FOGARTYVILLE COMMUNITY MEDIA AND ARTS CENTER
Sarasota, FL

Project: Creative Nexus

The Creative Nexus, established in 2023, is a series of gatherings dedicated to providing an intentional space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ musicians to connect, collaborate, and receive artistic business development support. Kicking off in October 2024 with a free concert, the program will involve a series of workshops throughout the grant period and culminate in a Summit in early Summer 2025. While going through a leadership transition in the coming year, the Creative Nexus ensures that an emphasis on diversity and inclusion is embedded in the future of the organization.

Venue Info

The original Fogartyville Café was a community coffeehouse located in Bradenton, FL. The Café served fare and featured musical performances, open mics, educational and political events. In 2007 the Café and moved to Sarasota to focus on the development of WSLR, a low power community radio station. The Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center is now home to most of WSLR’s live concerts. They provide space to grassroots organizations, host collaborative events and trainings, and create a network of support for local organizations working to build a more just world. Over the years Fogartyville has gained a national reputation as a premier listening room and is much loved by local residents.
