BOP STOP Awarded Grant by New Organization Supporting Small Venues
A new nonprofit organization, based in New York City, called the Live Music Society, was recently founded to support live music at the grassroots level and bolster the smallest music venues to help them survive the pandemic.
It recently awarded its first 20 grants to clubs across the country after putting out a call through the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), another new organization founded earlier this year by music venues to lobby for support for venues forced to close their doors. It stipulated that venues should have a capacity of less than 250, have been open for at least three years and that live music be their primary business. One of the clubs awarded a grant was Ohio City’s BOP STOP, the nonprofit venue of the nonprofit Music Settlement.
“BOP STOP is unique because although the club supports itself primarily with earned revenue, the club is non-profit and owned by The Music Settlement,” says the club’s manager Gabe Pollack. “This business model can make it challenging to find financial support specifically for BOP STOP. This is why I’m so grateful for our Live Music Society grant.”
