Project: Cool School Music in Motion

COOL SCHOOL is a free musical learning activity for youth ages 7-18 years, providing music workshops every Saturday at Cafe Coda. Music in Action funding supports Cafe Coda’s expansion of the program in which students learn practical skills and are encouraged to listen and play music in new and creative ways. The grant also allows Cafe Coda’s House Band to take to the road with their new mobile stage, bringing music performances and workshops to Madison area middle schools, providing opportunities for young people to experience and participate in live music, whether or not they study an instrument in school.

Café CODA is Madison’s premier jazz space and the coolest place to be in the heart of the creative and cultural hub of Madison. The venue offers a wide variety of creative and cultural arts, from musical performances to student workshops and master classes. As Madison’s preeminent jazz saxophone and flute player, owner Hanah Jon Taylor has performed with artists including Miles Davis, Richie Havens and Nina Simone and brings life-long experience and a jazz sensibility to the Madison community.
